Amarcord

Paola taddeo and Matilde Giacomelli

Have you ever remembered something one way, only to discover that someone else remembers it differently?

A memory can change without us noticing. A person, a place, a voice can slowly take on another shape. Sometimes we remember what happened. Sometimes we remember what we needed to happen.

AMARCORD enters this uncertain space between reality, memory and imagination.

On stage, one woman is seen through two bodies. Paola is the living presence, while Matilde embodies the memory that keeps changing shape. An old woman, a buried child, a little girl: fragments of a life appear, disappear and return transformed.

A large piece of fabric becomes a landscape of time. A childhood song opens another version of the past. Play turns into something more unsettling. Grief meets tenderness, laughter meets loss, and the body becomes the place where what cannot be explained is felt.

The work moves through contemporary dance, floorwork, partnering and physical theatre, culminating in a taranta (a traditional Italian dance)an attempt to move through the body what cannot be resolved with words.

AMARCORD is a journey through the memories we carry, the memories we lose, and the memories we change in order to keep going.
