Joyful Journey is a vibrant, participatory street performance where dance, live percussion, and storytelling meet in a powerful celebration of joy as resistance. Inspired by Afro-Cuban traditions and the playful wisdom of orishas like Eleguá and Oshún, performers and musicians guide the audience through rhythm, movement, and shared rituals. Blending choreographed scenes with games, call-and-response, and improvisation, the piece invites everyone to step in, dance, and connect. From playful disruption to collective fiesta, Joyful Journey transforms the street into a space of inclusion, laughter, and embodied resilience—where joy becomes a force that brings people together and opens new paths.
The project is carried by Fluid roots - a team led by Tatiana Galibus, in collaboration with Indira Acosta, Rosalia Roque, Manuel Thénard and Gwenael Francotte. Joyful Journey draws from our collective experience in artistic work in Cuban and Afro-Caribbean dance, activated through a participative and decolonial lens. We are coached by Bo'Garts Cie and generously supported by Danspunt under CODE DANS + project.
This summer, Joyful Journey comes to Antwerpen (30.07 @zomerfabriek) and Ixelles (17.07 @square du vieux tilleul).
