“Whispers of Palestine: A Steps for Peace Series” explores Palestinian heritage through live oud music, poetry, traditional songs, theatrical storytelling and dabkeh.
The core idea behind the “Steps for Peace” series is that dance can become a universal language of peace, freedom, and human connection. Through the steps of dabkeh, the performance tells a story of identity, freedom, peace, and belonging, reflecting the lived experiences of Palestinians in the diaspora and the way art can serve as a tool for peaceful resistance.
For the Raj'een troupe, every dabkeh step is a promise of return, and every Palestinian song is a prayer for peace.
The intercultural dimension blends traditional dabkeh with elements of contemporary dance to create a unique performance.
The show is non-commercial in nature and fosters social cohesion and harmonious coexistence by celebrating the beauty of cultural diversity and the role of art as an instrument of peace.
The Raj’een Dabkeh Group (a non-profit organization) is a Palestinian dabkeh troupe based in Belgium, comprising young men and women of Palestinian and Arab descent, as well as European members who share a passion for group dance. Our mission is to preserve Palestinian heritage while allowing it to evolve so that it resonates with international audiences.
Raj'een fosters the empowerment of young talent from diverse backgrounds wishing to launch an artistic career in Belgium. Technical training is grounded in traditional dabkeh methods from the occupied Palestinian territories, while also incorporating contemporary pedagogical approaches based on attentive listening and personalized support for the young dancers' artistic and personal development. A central element of Raj'een is the creation of strong bonds among the dancers, built on shared values of respect, empathy, and mutual trust; the group therefore balances training sessions with team-building activities.
It aims to bring together dancers from diverse backgrounds to promote dabkeh in Belgium as a powerful tool for cultural preservation and peaceful resistance against the erasure of Palestinian heritage.
