I’m leaving.
Are you coming later?
We are venturing onto a boundary whose other side remains to be discovered. As we walk, we explore the ebb and flow in a constant connection. Undulating between the rocky outcrops, we carve out a path that branches out into the veins of our bodies. So high that our humanity fades away.
A curtain of mist that vanishes is drawn back by the wind. Sand that crumbles as if our bodies were gently collapsing.
We venture into nothingness. Time does not exist here, and that is as it should be, as if nothing exists that does not touch something else. A worn-out skin sheds as soon as it is no longer needed, but we do not abandon ourselves.
You go already and I'll follow you?
KIDTS is a two-person collective formed by Astrid Schouteden and Lou De Ruyck. They met whilst studying Performance Art at K.A.S.K., where they discovered a shared fascination with dance in the broadest sense of the word. Drawing on their own multidisciplinary practices, they work together to explore ways of interweaving movement and visual art.
Astrid Schouteden works at the intersection of performance and textiles. Her work focuses on the social dimension of art, with the aim of creating new forms of connection and encounter. Process, material and texture are key elements in her practice, in which storytelling plays a central role. By weaving together stories of people, animals and herself into her research, she creates a practice that not only reflects on connection but also makes it tangible.
Lou De Ruyck explores the dynamic interaction between movement and the visual arts. Her performances arise from a quest to develop a new dance language, drawing on her own visual work in the form of installations and drawings. She believes in the power of experimentation and in blurring the boundaries between artistic disciplines.
As a collective, Astrid and Lou combine dance and textiles to create a visual and physical narrative. Their collaboration is characterised by the tension between their divergent artistic methods, which are nevertheless grounded in a shared philosophy: to continue experimenting, playing and seeking new perspectives. It is precisely through their differences that they challenge one another, resulting in a multi-layered and innovative interweaving of dance and textiles.
