Troost

Isaiah Selleslaghs X Collectief Relevant

Whether it is due to the current dire state of the world or to personal tragedies and small losses, we are all searching for comfort. An answer to the general sense of sadness.

Comfort takes countless forms: intimate and personal, but also open and collective. With an inclusive team of five dancers, we explore - through personal anecdotes - how we deal with what words cannot convey. What place is given to the unspeakable, and where do we find solace in our bodies?

‘Troost’ is a dance piece in progress about the search for light, connection and resilience in the face of adversity.

About Isaiah Selleslaghs X Collectief Relevant

Isaiah Selleslaghs (born 1998, Antwerp) is a dancer, dance teacher and choreographer with a background in contemporary dance and dance/movement therapy. She trained at the Kunsthumaniora Antwerp, went on to graduate in Modern Theatre Dance from the University of the Arts in Amsterdam, and in recent years has completed a bachelor’s degree in movement therapy (creative therapy).

As a performer, Isaiah has already appeared with Opera Zuid and Poetic Disasters Club, and has been a member of the WArd/waRD Company for several years. She combines her artistic practice with a strong social commitment. She has led workshops in various contexts and has worked as a movement therapist in psychiatric settings, specifically in day centres for people with disabilities and underage refugees. Drawing on this experience, she develops socio-artistic projects in which dance serves as a means of facilitating expression and connection.

Collectief Relevant is a fledgling socio-artistic collective of artists and social professionals: visual artists, dancers, musicians, graphic artists, social workers and thinkers. We use art and collaboration to strengthen social inclusion and community wellbeing. Our work is based on three pillars:
1. Community building: through community kitchens, open mics, jam sessions and themed days, we forge connections between diverse people and communities.
2. Talent development & creative therapy: we offer accessible artistic workshops, focusing on self-expression and resilience amongst vulnerable groups.
3. Art as a social tool: we create socially relevant art, working with young artists and in collaboration with the public.
We are helping to build a society in which every individual feels seen, heard and involved – regardless of their background or circumstances.
