Cielos

Isabella Arboleda

When I turned 33 I wanted to go to confession and put an end to the fictive relation between God and myself. I would find a represenant of evangelical power and lay bare my vulnerabilities regarding my attempts to overcome the limits of the heart, the body and language. Like this I would redeem from the need of finding in any kind of beliefs, the answers to the questions I’ve had my whole life.

I bring these confessions on stage to confront the invisible and the power inflicted on bodies by doctrines, with an intention of reinterpreting the foundations of my faith. By taking movement as the primary manifestation of the essential, I seek to come back to the origins by visiting, through imagination, a mythical place that is prior to beliefs and yet full of faith: Serranía del Chiribiquete.

Cielos (Heavens) sheds light on my personal relationship with the divine and faith, to rebuild it after destruction, on my own terms.

It calls into the centers of faith and spirituality within me: a mountain, a river, Chiribiquete, my body itself.

About Isabella Arboleda

I am a dancer, choreographer and curator born in 1992 in Santiago de Cali (Colombia).

What I do can be seen as a sublimation or an undermining of what history has made of our bodies. My work often reflects on the ontology of power, which leads me to observe how contexts and institutions shape and influence bodies.

I studied contemporary dance in Canada (2014), Germany (2015), and Belgium (2020). I have presented my own work at festivals in Germany (2016), Denmark (2016), the Netherlands (2018, 2020), and Belgium from 2018 to the present. As a dancer, I have collaborated with choreographers such as: Tedd Robinson (CA, 2013), Olga Stetsyuk (NL/UKR, 2015), Constanza Macras (AR/DE, 2016), Ido Batash (IL, 2018), Judith Clijsters (BE, 2020), Giorgia Nardin (IT, 2021), Pierre Bastin (BE, 2023–2026), Sandra Delgadillo (BE/BOL, 2021–2025), and visual artist Em’kal Eyongakpa (CMR/NL, 2025).

Since 2022, I have been co-director of "Hedone," a curatorial initiative that explores pleasure from a feminist perspective within contemporary art spaces.
