"one moves, the other doesn't", a choreographic project by fyllenia grigoriou, translates choreography into somatic transcription and kinetic cartography, investigating how bodies carry experience and movement traces the passage from the individual toward connection. Central to the work is the ephemeral nature of dance itself. The solo form intensifies the condition of dance as a melancholic project - arising only to dissolve - and offering something that resists the nature of dance at the vanishing point. This condition resonates with the tragic myth of Eurydice: when Orpheus, on his way to bring her back to life, turns around to look at her, he renders her second death; her presence and disappearance remarkably unforgettable. The dancer too faces a double transition, an eurydicean task, towards disappearance: first in the moment movement ends, then in the gradual fading from memory. The performance focuses on the ontology of dance, asking what it means to dance in awareness of this second death, and to offer movement that matters precisely because it attempts to resist while it passes. The solo becomes a vessel for what is most personal to remember, transformed into matter and form.
In response to this inherent disappearance, the work introduces scenographic elements that resist the ephemeral—ice, water, sand and fire. These materials become attempts to keep traces, to remember. Each element engages with the dancer's movement, creating temporary evidence of what occurred. The scenography holds the presence of an absent other, cultivating the possibility of relation. This artistic practice seeks to expose temporality, matter, and memory as elements that expand the notion of the present from its melancholic fate, while it reveals the intimacy of duration.
